i still feel like i might throw up but what i think i will do is go take a shower……….

A past neighbor says hi

Monday, April 18th, 2005

Back when I was living in White Marsh, Maryland I had a neighbor with two children next door. One was in high school, the other in elementary school. Being in middle school myself, there wasn’t much we had in common other then being neighbors.

Some of you may have heard that I’ve been replying to my moms constant emails of jokes and chain letters. Since I have been replying to everyone that she carbon-copied, I have started to hear from long lost friendships. I got an email today from a past neighbor.

Hehe, I dont hear from you often but here lately you keep sending me this stuff and I love it. Ok so I went to your website, interesting….can you do me a favor Mr. PC Whiz?? I am a booking agent for local musicians and I just booked a $(big money) show and I need an animated gif made but dont know how to do it. On my old pc I had a program that did it, but I dont have it anymore and am lost!!!!

Let me know and if so, I will send you the pictures needed for it, etc.

Thanks.
Love,

“The people we become are not always the people who we are”

Man, that was really cool. I checked out the sites and it appears that they are specifically oriented towards accoustic music in Balitmore, Maryland. My sister in-laws fiance (is that rite? I think it’s still a toss-up). Any how, my sister in-laws significant other is always playing his guitar here and I think he has a band.

I ran down stairs and asked if he was interested in that sort of thing. He said sure and thanked me for the links. He and his band mates were starting to look into something like that.

I replied that I could throw a few images together and she gave me some instructions to put together the images for the upcomming gig. Here is my first attempt. I’m crossing my fingers.

Dreams and other audio

Sunday, April 17th, 2005

I created a separate blog to post all of my dreams to each day. You can find it over at Lewies Dreams. I also created three podcast xml files too:

I’m going to hold back from posting audio to this blog here. There are now two blogs that I’m going to try to post at least once each day. Lewies Dreams - where I post an audio file of what I dreampt of, and this one where I write text of just about anything that I find interesting.

I’m debating if I should post the text version of each audio file as well. My wife finds that it is easier to read ahead quickly since I appear to just … Lag. I agree with her. It was hard to keep myself from reading ahead when I listened to myself talk. The other benefit is that if I am not clear, you can read what I am saying.

A final benefit - search engines. Search engines love to pick up on keywords in text. They don’t do so well with audio. I don’t know if there is a search engine out there specifically meant for searching audio files. It would be interesting if they could pull out Lyric3 tags, or have some kind of speech recognition.

The thing about podcasts

Saturday, April 16th, 2005

I’ve started going around listening to what podcasts are all about. I am finding that most have small clips of music throughout them. You’ll hear an audio clip, then the author comes on and talks. They take small breaks (30 - 60 seconds) and continue. Some have the music continue in the background. And then at the end, the podcast ends with another audio clip.

Podcasts tend to be long. They range between thirty minutes to an hour. So I can see why the music is there. I can’t stand listening to myself talk for a half hour. I need a break.

So over the next few days, I’ll be doing lots of research with audio posts and podcasts. One thing that I have found is that podcasts can’t be played on iPods. This really goes against the name “Pod Cast” doesn’t it? It appears that there are problems with DRM (Digital Rights Management). iPods don’t play MP3 files. They play a different kind of proprietary audio file.

Another problem I’m having is that I can’t get my blog listed on audo.weblogs.com. This service lets other services know that there is a new audio post out there on the blogosphere. It’s like a form of advertising for potential listeners.

Video Post Test

Well, it appears that AudioBlog supports videos too. So I’m just playing with my webcam and seeing how this works out. Don’t mind me, I’m just experimenting.
