Hooray for Angel’s bread!

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

I started to thaw some dough last night. Angel noticed that it started to rise in our refrigerator when she woke up. A quick call to mom and she was finishing what I had started. She took it out, put it into bread pans, and let it rise an inch just above the top of the pans. Then came the cooking.

I came home and saw two nice loaves of bread. It was so tempting to dig in but I waited for Angel to wake up. She woke up a little later from her nap and was surprised that I hadn’t tried any. It seems that she didn’t eat any either because she was waiting for me to come home. True love …

Angel's Bread

Anyhow, I’m really happy. Angel got all the steps done pretty well. The last time she tried this was a little over two years ago and we literally had an explosion. Here is an old post that I had on my old news application.

The Dough Incident

We use Rich’s Enriched White Bread Dough to make sausage bread. Some people are lucky enough not to run into the cooking troubles my wife has. Some are unfortunate as well, for they miss out on the fun of discovering new and crazy scenarios that someone would not usually run into.

Tonight, I decided to make some hot chocolate before I went to sleep. On top of the microwave was a bag of bread dough. What was interesting was that the bag looked like it was full of air and foam latex was coming out of it in a large bubble. After a second take, I pieced together what had happened. Apparently, my wife and sister in-law let the bread dough set out all day. They were going to make sausage bread, but there was not enough sausage in the house. Rather then make loaves of bread with what they had, they let it set and forgot about it.

I went downstairs to the lounge to ask the girls what they were going to do with it. They ran up and laughed about it. Angel grabbed the dough with her hands and threw it away. She was worried that I was upset and it may have been expensive. I mentioned it was only expensive given our current financial situation, but that I was expecting to get some extra money the next day in my bank account.

Well, it is time to sleep.

Techno-logic Kitty

Bandit is progressing well and he is at that stage where everything he does is cute. The world around him grabs his attention with every little thing that he sees. Tonight he saw the cursor on my screen move around. I giggled a few times just watching him chase it and started playing with him. It’s interesting to think that I am using a mouse to play with him.

Bandit is doing great

Sunday, November 6th, 2005

My wife agreed with her friend to help foster five sick kittens who had not yet had there eyes open. A vet who saw them gave us some antibiotics to help with there respiratory problems. One by one, the kittens died and caused much heart ache. We were down to the last kitten, Bandit.

Sad little Bandit
Lewie with BanditI haven’t spoken much about him. We didn’t know if he was going to pull through. It took a long time before his breathing got better. As his health improved, I began to wonder if he would have any problems because he was so young when he got sick. I wasn’t sure if he would purr either since it seemed to cause him so much pain to do so before.

Today, bandit is a purr box. He is very active and very much an alpha male in our small commune of cats. The last thing that I see before I go to sleep is him. When I wake up, he is rite there beside me. I also let him lay on my lap when I am at my computer. He doesn’t stay put for long and is interested in everything around him. Angel says that he probably bonds with men much easier.
Watch a video of Bandit and Prince having fun.

He is in that phase of chewing on wires. It’s a nasty habit, but it is probably mostly due to his teething. I’m trying to teach him not to bite me so often. They are playful bites, but it won’t help if he is nibbling peoples fingers when we try to get him adopted.

Gerbils for sale

Monday, October 31st, 2005

As a few of you may know, I have a pretty nice setup for my gerbils that has just been growing and growing. The two critters have a very happy time exploring every time I change it on them. Gerbils love to gnaw constantly. Unfortunately, it has been digging into my sleep. I have a home with ten cats and the safest place for them is in my bedroom.

These guys (Ying and Stewey) have been a part of our family for about a year now. Ying is black and Stewey is tan. If you are near the Northern Virginia area, and have an offer or some questions - send me an email via lewismoten@gmail.com. I’ll try and get a list of all the stuff that will come with this setup tomorrow. For now, I have some pictures. You can also watch a video of my gerbils in action.

A Diary of Doodles

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

Last week I came to the conclusion that I wanted to start a diary of sorts so that I could write down some thoughts that I didn’t want to make public. I went ahead and purchased a graph paper moleskine journal. I’ve written a few entries already and am getting used to manually writing.

My hands are cramping just from doing one page each night. Of course, I have tiny print, and I never learned how to hold a pencil correctly. Ok, I know now how to hold it, but it is just not easy to do. And this, increases how quickly my hands cramp up.

I find myself starting to make use of the opposite side of the paper. After I’m done writing, I start drawing some things related to what I just wrote about. I’m also finding that writing after I have blogged helps more as well. There is a little more behind each story that I blog about (thoughts, opinions, feelings, etc.) and I am still able to capture it in the journal.

Graph Paper Doodles

On another note, I’m on the verge of exploding with happyness of how much I love my wife. I don’t know why. It happends from time to time. I’ve had this feeling a few times throughout the day actually. Of course it would be crazy for me to just shout at the top of my lungs to tell the world because I might scare the kitten in the other room, or my coworkers in the office. I should have made some good use of the time while commuting to and from work in my car today to express my feelings. Anyhow, I need to get some sleep.

It’s all so still

Sunday, October 16th, 2005

Lewie with bunny earsWhat a day. I got up and left for the mall to pick up a journal. I found a moleskine notebook that had graph paper within it. I always liked writing and playing with graph paper, so I went ahead and picked it up.

I got a few things over at SAM’s Club and then headed next door to Wal-Mart. I had a task that I did not want, but I had to go on and get it over with. My task was to pick up some ladies underwear. I felt so out of place. I had the idea in my head that everyone thought I was a pervert. There was a woman with her daughter looking at me as I was trying to find the rite size. For once, I was thankful for the self checkout lanes.

My nephew and niece were visiting when I arrived back home. We played a few games of hide and go seek, and my niece wanted me to take a few pictures of her. She even got in on the action and started taking some pictures of my nephew and I together. We then went inside and played Spyro the Dragon for a little while. I’m still lacking a variety of games for her to play, so I’ll have to look into fixing that problem sometime.

While the two kids went in the back room to play on the Atari Flashback 2, I watched some of the Barbershop shows with my mother in-law and wife. Showtime on demand has nine episodes rite now and we got through three of them. I enjoyed watching the episodes more then the movie itself.

Now that everyone has left, the house is very quiet. It’s amazing how quickly things change when children come and go. All throughout the day I just had this desire to go back to sleep. I think I am going to give in and take a nap.

Dude, you’re gettin’ a Dell

Monday, October 10th, 2005

It’s been agreed for quite a few months now that I’ll be getting a new computer for my nephew next month. It may help to offset many of the holidays where I haven’t been able to aford much at all. I still don’t have much cash to spare, but at least I have enough credit with Dell to purchase a new system.

Shopping on the Dell website sometimes requires very much time. They sell so many different systems that you can customize to be the way that you want them. You can make what appears to be two identical systems, but end up paying an arm and a leg for one over the other.

In the end, I found a combination (2.4GHz, 512 RAM, 80 GB HD) for about seven hundred dollars. This is a system for school work as well as a game called Ultima Online also known as UO.

Return to Sosaria

The game is about eight years old, but it is alive and kicking. I’ve been in and out of the game many times and even got to play it during the beta. I picked up the gold edition tonight for roughly ten dollars and created a new account (free for fourty five days). Angel found that we still have access to my brothers account, so I’ll probably change over to it and activate it on pay day. An aged account has some advantages over new accounts such as the ability to receive special items every year and during software upgrades.

Here is a list for all of you hardware buffs, or if you are just interested in what I purchased.

Running out of time

Sunday, October 9th, 2005

Last week I had been denied to purchase medications through my insurance plan at my local pharmacy. The response was that I would have to apply for the prescriptions through mail-order to get the low price. I was left with the option to pay a little over $100 for each prescription that I was purchasing.

Since my wife still had plenty of scripts, I decided to hold out. We had agreed with our family doctor that we would start seeing a specialist to take care of our specific needs. Unfortunately, we waited too long to do so. I found a specialist on my plan that was close to home and scheduled an appointment. To move the appointment closer, I set up two appointments throughout this week rather then showing up together in the week after.

Today a bombshell just dropped on me. My wife has one day remaining on her prescription. I had a few of hers that I’ve been splitting in half for myself, since she takes twice the amount of the same prescription as I do. Mine were left over from the last time this happened and I’m going to let her have what little I have left.

This still puts the two of us in a bad spot. These are not medications that you just stop taking. Once you stop taking them, withdrawl symptoms are almost unbearable. I figured that I could tough it out if it came down to it, but I didn’t want to put her through that misery.

I ran down to the gas station on an errand for my wife. I saw an ATM machine and started to wonder if it would let me withdraw a large sum of cash that I didn’t have. In the past, I’ve done this without realizing it and have gone so far as $600 below zero. At the moment, I was only 96 cents in the red, so I gave it a go. Listening to the cold hard cash being shuffled was music to my ears.

Tonight I’ll be able to rest easy and reorder those expensive scripts. My wife will not have to suffer. We will be able to see our new doctor in a normal state of mind. I may even ask the specialist if there is a different medication that isn’t so dependent upon and may even be cheaper if it isn’t covered by insurance.

Mom called asking where the specialist was located since she’ll be taking my wife on Friday. I put the address on our message board for her to look at when she comes and visits her tomarrow. She’ll probably find some directions on the internet to find them. From what I remember, the woman on the phone stated that they are located in a building behind a 7-11 store.

Dreams of a horse stable

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

I had one of these wierd dreams the other night. From time to time, I record them onto a little audio device setting next to my bed. I would write them down, but it just takes too much time and I’m only half-awake when I do it.

This dream was about a horse stable and a club house nearby. I was sent to go pick up a horse for my manager. I showed up in the high-class club in the most scruffy state possible. A woman asked for my membership card as I began to enter another room. I replied that I was not a member and was looking to find out where I needed to go so that I may pick up a horse. She stated that the stables were further down the road.

On the way out, many people were on the lawn in front of the club. I would pass them on my way to the car and noticed my dad walking alone in the opposite direction towards the club. I decided to shout his full name since a lot of people there were probably called “Dad” by there children. He didn’t take notice and the second time I called, “Dad!”.

My father notices me and I asked why he was there. He was quiet but said that he was getting some lunch. I told him that it seemed to be a very expensive place to eat lunch. Dad said that he had to go and he continued on his way. I saw him approach a man holding a little girls hand. Dad grabbed the girls other hand. It struck me as odd seeing him with another family, having another life.

I continued on my way towards the stables and had a really tough time finding the horse. The stables were not just one building, but composed of many open buildings. They had roofs, but no walls. Some had wire mesh fences around the sides, where others had open fences made of wood that I would climb through.

I eventually called the keeper of the stables on my cell phone. During the conversation, I could hear an echo and realized that she was in a house behind me making breakfast in her kitchen. It seems that I was expected to bring a horse trailer with me and that it needed to hook up to my car. I didn’t have a trailer, nor the ability to hook one up. And by the end of our conversation, I was still confused on how to pick up this horse.
