The batteries in my trackball have died. For an odd reason, we always seem to have the batteries that we don’t need on hand. I needed some AA batteries, but all I had on hand were AAA batteries. It was time to do some shopping.

So there I was standing in Wal-Mart looking at batteries. I was reminiscing on the times when you could choose to buy a pack of two or four batteries. All I needed were two batteries, but the only option available was to buy in bulk of at least eight batteries.

I choose Duracell because there is this ingrained advertisement all throughout childhood that it is a tough battery that lasts longer then any other. It’s probably a load of BS, but even the colors shout out, “dependability”. All the name-brand batteries were the same price. There was a generic set that was a dollar cheaper, but those seem to run out so quickly that they aren’t worth the trouble.

As I picked up the Duracell batteries, I noticed a set below it advertising free wal-mart music downloads. The whole shelf was full of them. I get home and open the little fold out and the first thing that I notice is the expiration date June 30th, 2005. I’m a little annoyed and start looking at front of the battery package. Sure enough in small print is the phrase, “Offer expires 6/30/05″.

I went ahead and tried the website http://www.walmart.com/musicdownloads/gillete and entered my code K3AG-KTAJ-E99W-AAX4. It complained that the code was no longer valid. Has this happened to you before? You may have bought something only because of a special promotion, but to your dismay, it is no longer valid or does not apply to you. It seems like the offer is still running since the website is still up and running.

What rite do I have to complain? It was a free offer anyway. Any other pack of batteries would have still costed the same without it. The lesson of the story is that I should have payed more closer attention before I made my choice to purchase the item.
