The Dead Still Dance
In the mid nineties, I left home and started my higher education. I was faced with a culture shock quite a many of times. Along the way, I was introduced to different forms of music. One particular band was called “Dead Can Dance“. The person who recommended it described it as “Gothic Lullabies”. There is (or was) a large controversy determining if DCD was “Goth” or not. Either way, I don’t care. I will say this - the music really appealed to the “Goth” crowd.
Since then, I have amazed a small collection of 9 albums of there’s and a tribute album as well. I have fallen in love with the voices. One thing that really got me was watching the movie Gladiator. Every time I heard a woman’s voice with a particular style of music, I would keep telling myself that it sounds so much like Lisa Gerrard singing. After going home and looking at the information on the internet, I found that it was in fact her singing.
Anyhow, the group separated ways a few years ago because they had too much going on with other projects. There have been many times where I had just sat back listening to there music and wishing that I could have attended one of there performances. This was especially happening while listening to there live album - Toward the Within.
Well guess what. The dead have arisen. Dead Can Dance is on tour. One of my coworkers told me about it and I immediately rushed to see if tickets were still available through Ticketmaster for Dead Can Dance. Seats were still available but selling out quick on October tenth. One site stated that the Dead Can Dance shows were selling out in advance. The good seats were already taken so I grabbed two tickets for the second level.

My stomach is feeling like butterflies. I haven’t felt like this in such a long time. The excitement is just off the charts. They are also releasing an album from each major city of live music that night. I may actually order one for Washington, D.C.
My wife has only heard a few songs that I play for her every now and then. She likes The Ubiquitous Mr Lovegrove that is on the album, Into The Labyrinth. There are so many that I personally like. Here are just a few that are on the top of my list:
- Ullyses
- Enigma of the Absolute
- Anywhere out of the World
- In the kingdom of the Blind the One-Eyed are Kings
- The Song of the Sibyl
- Fortune Presents Gifts Not According to the Book
- Black Sun
- Fortune
- East of Eden
- In Power We Entrust the Love Advocated
- The Arcane
- Yulunga
- Ariadne
- Song of the Stars
- Song of the Dispossessed
- Song of the Nile
- Advent
- Avatar
- I Can See Now
- American Dreaming
- Cantara
- Don’t Fade Away
- In the Wake of Adversity
I could keep going with the song that I like best, but those are just a few. They have so many it makes you wonder how they have time for anything else.

Hey!
They are also one of my favs too.
Went to see them in Manchester (UK) and the gig was amazing!
Everyone was just sitting on the floor in awe of Lisa and Brendan. Totally wicked.
I recently pimped them over at my music blog too!
Spread the word! :+:
