So how fast is fast?

I stumpled upon a website called Internet Frog that had an internet connection speed test. The results appeared to be real-time. I watched as the chart would update itself over 2 minutes and then gave me a summary of my results.

Download: 4,686,424 bps
Upload: 423,768 bps
QOS: 88%
RTT: 68 ms
MaxPause: 47 ms

So what does this all mean? I can’ t (more like don’t want to bother) make sense of what QOS, RTT, or MaxPause is all about. However, I do understand some of those numbers on the chart. It appears that my connection is almost as fast as a T2. I didn’t realize the speed that I had. I always thought of cable modems to be around a T1 or just below it.

As long as I don’t have to watch pictures load slowly, I’m happy.

I have to admit, that’s a pretty cool site :+:

I was just reading something somewhere or another the other day about comcast kicking up speeds to 15 megabits in some areas to compete with something else… Speeds are generally increasing, thankfully. I think you’re on the higher end of whats out there.

I myself top out around 2 (Charter), but that’s OK since I’m only actually paying for the cheapest package they offer. :)

I think cable modems could run at 100 Mb/s or more, but the cable companies limit you for obvious reasons. It’s actually the modem itself that limits the speed. I’ve heard that this can be hacked, but apparently it’s pretty noticable and easy to fix on the cable company’s end. Also, I guess it’s kind of a bummer to have them get pissed at you and just cancel your service.. :)

You’ve got a cool site and doesn’t look like you have to work hard at all at being cute…sitting there and smilin’ works for me!

Seriously, I appreciate the Internet Frog info because my DSL speed was suppose to have been increased yesterday and I really didn’t see a difference, but the chart shows it’s faster than it used to be. Oh, by the way…found you via LastRider. Take care and keep having fun! Anne :+:
