Wireless Networking and iPod Envy

I went over to my mother in-laws house to pick her up today. She lives with her daughter and son in-law and asked me to help them with there wireless network. Although I have one, I don’t use it much myself. The laptop that I wanted to use with it originally is on the edge of death and sets quietly in my closet. Apparently because everyone thinks that since I work with computers, I can answer any question and solve any problem. If only that were true.
They were able to get one of there new laptops connected to the network, but they were having problems with another laptop. They had done pretty much everything I would have done. I had brought along a USB adapter and plugged it into my sister in-laws laptop. After the drivers were installed, it immediately saw a few wireless networks in the area.
We are thinking that either there is a problem with her built-in wireless card and the antenna, or the drivers were not installed properly. She is going to rebuild her computer and I’ll take another look at it tomarrow. I think there is something wrong with the antenna myself.
While I’m helping out these guys, I notice a white box with a picture of an iPod click wheel. My brother in-law went ahead and purchased an iPod mini. I am so full of envy. Many people around me are getting these things. I’ve been working towards mine for almost a year now - but I’m trying to get it for free.
I don’t know how many MP3s he has or how big his CD collection is, but I can’t imagine it as being large enough to be iPod worthy. I’ve got about 15 GB of mp3s from my CD collection and I still have a ton of CDs to backup. I wonder if he’ll catch on to podcasting.
