A look at my taste of music

Sunday, July 24th, 2005

So a few people have been asking me from time to time about the music that I like. You can probably get a better idea by looking at my purchase history. Here are a few songs that I have recently purchased through iTunes. You can hear 30 second samples of all of the music through links to iTunes. iTunes

  • Bent
  • Tosca
  • Bonobo - The Plug
  • Only Child - When 6 Loves 9
  • De-Phazz - Cafe Coca
  • Sigur Rós - Svefn G Englar (Track 4 on the ( ) album)
  • The Chemical Brothers - One Too Many Mornings
  • Benny Benassi & The Biz - Satisfaction
  • Benassi Brothers - I Love My Sex
  • 4 Strings - Take Me Away (Into the Night)
  • I also got two albums.

So … it looks like a bunch of Dance, New Age, and Electronica. I’m still rating my existing MP3 Library of CD’s that I’ve backed up prior to aquiring my iPod. When that is done, I’ll probably generate some reports for everyone to look over.

    Mono, The Kissing Disease

    Saturday, July 23rd, 2005

Angel has been sick the past few days and it’s been getting worse. She described her symptoms to me and it all sounded like strep throaght or mono except for the fact that she was vomiting. Her throught was swollen so bad that it gave her great pain to swallow liquids. I took her to the hospital early this morning.

Sure enough, she had mono. They gave her some steroids to ease the swelling. They also gave her a prescription of antibiotics. Angel could actually talk and make sense after her throats swelling went down. We went over and picked up some gatoraide and her prescription for antibiotics. She also picked up some soup.

10 years ago, I had mono and it was misdiagnosed as strep throught. I showed up at the emergency room twice. Both times the prescribed antibiotics. The second time I showed up because I couldn’t swallow the pills. So what did they do? They prescribed bigger pills. On top of that, it was $50 for the second set of pills and I was asking everyone for cash to help me pay for it. The next day I called in for the results from the swab that they took to test my throat. They said I had mono and that the antibiotics wouldn’t do me any good anyway. The remedy was to just gargle warm salt water.

I remember that I was only drinking heavy amounts of water at the time before I went to the emergency room. Also, I stayed in my very dark room in the basement of the apartment I was living in. I was pretty sensitive to light. I was weak and didn’t want to move at all. I ended up having to drop out of school for the semester. I had dropped out the previouse semester due to my appartment catching on fire. These combined events ultimately lead me to dropping out of college all together.

    Bad Day

    Friday, July 22nd, 2005

Walked into work. Lots of stuff going on. Almost walked back out a few times. Feeling really self-destructive. Oddly enough I’m still here. It is nice and quiet when no one is around. Don’t want to go home. Don’t want to go anywhere. Don’t want to do anything. Feeling a lot of emotional weight on my back.

One of my readers thought I had a drinking problem and contacted me with some helpful information. If only I did … Problem is, I hardly ever touch the stuff. I’m a loser folks. Plain and simple. I don’t need to drink in order to have problems.

    re: Where you at Lewie???

    Thursday, July 21st, 2005

So I was checking my email before taking a nap and found a message from a friend:

have you fallen off the planet and landed on the
    moon….?

No comments at my blog or the tons of new pics I’ve
    posted…? Where you at Lewie???

Sorry folks. I realize that my posts have been pretty quick and lacking this week. My blogging activity has just about been nill. I’ve been able to listen to a few podcasts from Dark Compass and visit a few blogs (And to my friend, I have seen your blog and pictures). I just lack the willpower to reply. So what exactly has been happening in my life?

Stress. Let’s just say that I have good reason to be worn out this week. I am looking forward to the weekend. In fact, many times this week I have set on my bed in the morning contiplating if I should go into work or stay home and destress. I usually come up with a good many reasons why they need me to come in and slowly start getting ready.

    Google Maps the Moon

    Wednesday, July 20th, 2005

I checked out Google today and found that they had a new mapping website. Not too long ago, they mapped the earth along with driving directions. Mapping has been around for a long time offered by websites such as Microsofts Terra Server and MapQuest.

Google did something geeky cool in that they actually mapped out the moon with data provided by NASA. The also marked all of the lunar landings as well. I am speculating that they may be doing Mars next since our eyes are already looking in that direction.

Looking at the dates, it appears that we went to the moon over a 4 year time span. What happened? Where are those moon bases and cities that people used to dream about? Where are the monorails connecting the cities to each other? Where are the space ports?

I think there is still plenty of scientific benefit that the moon can offer. We have all heard of President Bush’s plans to put a base there to prepare for trips to Mars. There are other benefits though.

How about putting a large radio telescope in one of the craters? Think of it - there would hardly be any interference from the local population. Since the moon doesn’t have much of an atmosphere, you could also see better with optical telescopes during the night … and the day!

    Dreamy Problems with MSIE

    Wednesday, July 20th, 2005

I hadn’t noticed this until late last night, but my dreamer template has been giving Internet Explorer some renduring problems. This seems to be more of an issue with Internet Explorer itself. Some of the corners do not show up at all unless I scroll the page out of view and then back in.

I was going to start designing a new template, but until I can get this issue ressolved, I am going to put off making any more templates.

Padding or margins seems be a large issue concerning the right-hand corners. My fonts are just way too small for MSIE as well. I just wish that all browsers would rendure content the same way.

    PS2 Linux Installation

    Monday, July 18th, 2005

I purchased the PS2 Linux kit for my playstation more then a year ago. The kit is only compatible with monitors that support “Sync-on-Green”. I have been able to get it to work with my television, but the resolution is horrible for a computer.

Ever since then, I’ve been on a search for a special monitor. I have a good many monitors here, but nothing ever worked. Last week, one of my co-workers advertised to the group that he had a few monitors from home that he no longer needed. Someone joked that nobody would want a 15″ monitor. I quickly acknowledged that I could use one for my servers at home. I could always use more monitors.

I got the monitor on Friday. Since I went over to a friends house for the weekend rite after work, I wasn’t able to do anything with it until I got home on Sunday. I was too tired to do anything, but I had a thought that it might be compatable with my PS2.

I got home tonight and sure enough it worked! I am overjoyed. Isn’t it beautiful?

    Woodrow Wilson Bridge Construction

    Friday, July 15th, 2005

So the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project is going to shut down traffic to only one lane for each direction this weekend. Oh how I detest it. I’m going over a friends house for this weekend and I’ll be taveling over this bridge to get there tonight and to come back on Sunday.

I’ll be happy when this is all over. I may not be able to blog over the weekend as I will not be home. See you around.

    Griffin RoadTrip Arrives

    Thursday, July 14th, 2005

My new Griffin RoadTripToday my Griffin RoadTrip arrived in the mail. I actually paid for this little gadget, but I got a few bucks knocked off of it through one of the shops listed on Amazon.com.

It was easy to piece together and plugged rite into my cigarette lighter without any problems. I used a small adapter because my lighter socket isn’t as deep as others. An additional extension was provided, but I was able to set it up without it.

This little product is very handy. I love the fact that I can charge the iPod on my way into and out of work while listening to it on the radio. I was listening to it today with the Belkin FM transmitter that I received yesterday and was very happy with what I could hear.

After I got the mount into position, I locked down the joints with the wingnut screws. The one thing that I noticed rite away was that I couldn’t tilt the iPod towards me. I could tilt it on a vertical plane, but not horizontally. I can still see the screen just fine. I would prefer if I could see it better.

The FM transmitter at the bottom can be detatched and hooked up to my computers USB slot. I doubt I would remove it since I already have the Belkin FM transmitter that I can carry around and can work on two “AA” batteries alone.

    iTunes - Frugal After All

    Wednesday, July 13th, 2005

So I went ahead and made my first purchase on iTunes. It took me some time to determine what I wanted to buy. There were so many choices. I was browsing through some old albums that I listened to back in college, or stuff that I used to want.

I then started looking for Daft Punk. These guys come out with some really cool stuff. I just purchased a used CD of Discovery a few months back. I sat there looking at the Human After All album in iTunes. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to purchase the whole album, or just a few select songs.

I started playing the 30 second clips of each song and was not impressed with half of them. After much debate, I went ahead with purchasing only one song - Technologic. I’ll probably buy a few more, but after hearing how the other songs sounded, I can’t justify purchasing the whole album. I can get a used album on Amazon.com cheaper then iTunes price of $9.90.
