Ego Surfing with Zoom Info

So I was listening to my XM Radio on my way into work and heard an advertisement about ZoomInfo. It came off as being a great way to check up on yourself and who is talking about you on the internet. They also advertised that I could look up a few people that I knew as well.

I checked into it after I got home. Only three results came back for “Lewis Moten” and only one was me. Apparently they found an old page where I had submitted a tutorial for handling missing web pages.

I went ahead and signed up for a free account. Almost free. For verification purposes, they ask for a valid credit or debit card to prove yourself. I took the bait and entered my debit card. It continued to state that I had provided a bad number. Odd. I took out my other credit card and it was accepted. The folks state that they will not charge anything and that it is only used for verification.

Anyways, I started entering a lot of information about myself. I felt like I was entering a resume or something. They wanted to know a few things:

  • Employment History
  • Education
  • Skills
  • Certifications
  • Languages
  • Board of Memberships and Affiliations
  • Biography

See what I mean? I listed my 454 skills just to see if the system could handle it. It took them and didn’t complian. I had quite a few certifications from way back from tekmetrics who later became brainbench.

This is fine and dandy, but the one problem I see is that the information is not instant. I can not see my profile as others would see it. They gave me a link and stated that the information would appear within 24 - 48 hours. Geesh! The internet is about speed. What is the big hold up? The only thing that I can conclude is that they moderate everything before allowing the content to be displayed.

Interface is nice and pretty, but it is a little hard to use when you start working with large amounts of data. Speed of publishing is a factor only because they don’t let you preview the final end-result (Unless the main edit page is the preview).

Maybe within 24-48 hours my profile will be live. Until then, I can only click and wait.
