Ear Candles
Last week, I talked about my ear wax problems (My ear stopped working again). To my surprise, I got a ton of comments about this. I couldn’t believe that people would spend so much time reading about my ear wax. (It was a pretty long post).
Anyhow, it appears that Google AdSense has detected keywords relating to this and displayed the following advertisements to me when I viewed my blog today:
Ear Candles

I was a little shocked. I had never heard of ear candles. The fact that two different ads showed up confirmed that this wasn’t just a joke. For a moment, I was reading one of the sites and was trying to figure out if they make the candles out of real ear wax.
Here is an explanation from one of the sites:
An ear candle, sometimes called an ear cone, is a long hollow tube tapered to a hand-finished tip that fits comfortably into the ear. The large end of the candle is lit and the smoke created spirals down through the ear canal. The warmth of the smoke gently dislodges foreign debris, softens old ear wax and helps evaporate excess moisture. This is believed to relieve earache pain, provide relief from the pressure in the sinuses and allow the ear to naturally push out the ear wax.
Talk about weird stuff. This reminds me of something you would see on Repley’s believe it or not. It is strange, unusual, interesting, odd, and just plain weird.

I’ve heard that about the smoke from a candle helping ease an earache for years. We’ve always called it an old wives tale. But if Google’s touting it, it must work !!

I recently read a medical journal about this because someone else had talked about it in their blog. Ear candling, according to most medical authorities, is misleading quackery at best and potentially harmful at worst.
Plus, eww. The person who blogged about it told a horror tale of having her ear candled, feeling an uncomfortable warmth and loss of hearing in the ear, seeing an ear, nose, and throat specialist, and having him pull out what seemed to be excessive amounts of nastiness from her ear canal. No thanks.

Hmm, I am quite sure I wouldn’t stick a candle in my ear for pain unless all else had failed first.
How’s your Monday?

Some friends of ours were ear candling one night. I don’t know how it ended up though. Can’t tell you if it worked or not.

This is the first I’ve heard about ear candles. It’s not something I think I’d really try.
My sister dealt with a massive amount of ear wax when she was younger, and ended up having to see an E.N.& T. doctor for it once every 3 months for the first 15 years of her life. Come to find out it was all due to an allergic reaction to soy.
Odd how the body works.

A couple months ago I tried the ear candle thing. WOW! I can’t believe how much wax came out of my ears. It was cool.
Before, I thought it was a bunch of crap and they would never work.
I think its better than being irrigated at the doctor.

..I must admit, it sounds kinda Shrekly. ;8^)
The other description, the “ear cone” actually sounds a bit interesting. Did you consider trying it? seriously. That ear pain you spoke of seems like it should be eliminated “by any means necessary”. heheh
Take Care.

ear candles is really an effective way to ease pain and clear the ear of excess wax. I’m from Arkansas, so you must imagine that us hillbillies has tried any of these things that would be considered outlandish or off the wall. Hey, it really does work and you should try it as well. seriously.

I’ve tried it, and I guess it works. I just spent the entire time praying my hair wouldn’t catch on fire.

I’ve never tried it, but a co-worker of mine did. The gross thing was she brought all the stuff that came out of her ear in a ziploc to show us!
Too much information!

I used to work for an ENT doctor. Yep, that candle thing actually works. Who would have known?
