Thinking outside the blog

I’m getting to a point where I am at a loss for grabbing more traffic. I’m already using all of the blog traffic exchanges that I know of (Blog Clicker, Blog Crowd, Blog Explosion, Blog Traffic, BlogAzoo). That is where most of my visitors come from. I’m also listed on a ton of directories.

I try and comment on many blogs that I read along with leaving my Url. The problem is - those blogs are usually on the same traffic exchanges as I am listed on. I need to find blogs that are outside of my scope.

One thing that I find helpful is searching just about any term on google with the word “Blog” usually returns blogs that I haven’t seen before. I also link to those blogs that I found sometimes. The fact that I link to these guys gives them reason enough to come back and leave a comment.

If you have an idea for how to get new visitors, I’d love to hear about it.

Hmmm, well you could make a post about something controversial calling out some big-time T.V. personality, maybe it will be seen by someone who links your page on yahoo or some popular news site…just a thought, or you could pay some website adversiting company…

I just started my own link directory for blogs. Going to configure it more but it’s a start. (I didn’t put the URL here as I don’t want to advertise).

Thanks Keith. I’ll check it out when I get home tonight.

Yo leeeewwwwwwieeeeee … what up on this Monday my friend.. you know.. I don’t know you, but somehow I feel like I know you because I see your silly mug all over the place. It seems like we frequent a lot of the same type of sites/blogs. Anyway, why do you want to increase traffic? Looking for ad revenue or just want to get your due props from the mass public? Sometimes I sit here at work trying to figure out how to drive more people to my blog, then I remind myself that the whole reason I made a blog was for my small number of family and friends to keep up on my boring life. So what is the “mission statement” or “purpose” if you will of your blog? Well back to dreaming up ways to drive traffic to my blog for no good reason at all ;-)

    Lewis,

Here’s a place where there are over 4700 blogs: http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Weblogs/

Perhaps there are some there you that you haven’t come across already.

I’m in just about the same boat as you but I don’t post as many comments as I should. it has always been something of a weak point for me.

Paul - I’m on an ego trip. One of these days I’m going to be famouse. I think it might be good to be famouse.

Start etching your URL into public washroom stalls. I’m guessing that would bring you a totally different type of reader…crazy and lonely, but different.

Lewis, when you get there, don’t forget about us little guys ;-)

I think it’s mostly about networking. We all seem to be a bunch of introverted socialites, but in my experiences, it’s all about the networking!

I wish I could remember how I stumbled across your blog to let you know what worked, but I can’t. One idea for you would be to maybe take someone and allow them to post on your site. My site just benefited from this, I have allowed someone to be a blogger for me, and he used to have a blog, so his readers and my readers are now combined.

If it helps in the future, I will post about anything I find interesting on your site.

  13. Lewis Moten Says:

Thanks Todd, but my blog is a little too personal to me. My wife posts every now and then, but I can’t see myself opening it up for anyone else to join in. However, I do encourage plenty of commenting though.

    Lewis well…
congrats ya won this week’s caption contest on my blog, so thats a little bit of exposure to ya =)
(and if not, at least it looks pretty to see your name up there right?)

  15. Lewis Moten Says:

LOL! Thanks Shabooty. I didn’t really think that I would win that one.

    np :)
I usually ask my friend Jon to help me decide because I am bad at those things =p
and he liked yours the best
    so good game
    holla!

  17. Big Al Says:

    Well, Lewis –

You posted to my blog, and so you’ve got me checking over here to see yours — so something worked! I tried what Todd did (added posters), but that was more because I was sans-computer for awhile, not because I was trying to drive traffic — although that was a benefit!

Well I found you through BE, but like Paul said (ha that’s the second time I’ve quoted him) anyway, I see your “mug” everywhere too, hmmm but that’s because I frequent gravatar.com every once in a while.

I’m new to blogging, but it’s been interesting so far. By the way, great blog, some really interesting entries so far.

On a blogger blog, like yours, click next in the upper right hand corner. This leads you to blogs that are often times outside of directories and traffic exchanges.

I find if I comment on these, I get new traffic.

Also, if you are willing to spend some money, you can advertise with Google Ad Sense.
