Laptop Envy

A few months ago, Tom left our office. My resource manager got Tom’s laptop. She also has her own laptop from the company. And last but not least, she has her own personal laptop from home in her office. This is all great and I don’t mind that she has so many, but I’ve been wanting a laptop for work for two years now.
The problem is, when I come home, I can’t do any work. Instead I make my own web pages and stuff. You may have noticed the tons of code that I post here on my blog or that I’m always doing something different every week. A lot of this valuable time could be transferred into productive time.
I had jokingly asked my primary manager about when I was going to get my own laptop. He got serious and said to ask my resource manager. One of the laptops that she has is supposed to be mine when she is done with it, and he had mentioned this to her in the past.
So Tom left in November. It’s been about four months. I have no idea how to approach this situation without stepping on toes. I could always buy my own laptop, but I don’t have the money for it.
I’ve got a project coming up soon where I need a second computer to verify and prove to my resource manager that .Net remoting is working accurately the way that I have programmed it. Simply put, remoting is the process of two machines talking to each other. I need to setup the program so that remoting is optional. A machine needs to be able to talk to itself, or a peer on the network.
The only way that I can do this now is to use remote desktop and connect to another computer running windows terminal server and install software on it to talk to my computer. Let’s just say it is a much slower process and more cumbersome.

Hey Lewis,
You should jokingly ask the resource manager about getting a laptop. It might work the same way it did with Tom. Good Luck on getting one! If you don’t get one from her check out ebay! That’s where I got mine and a cheap one works really well

Well, I actually do have a laptop here at home. I got it from ebay about five years ago. It is a pentium 100 MHz with 64MB RAM, but it couldn’t handle the software that I use today. Plus, the battery is dead.
