Dance Dance Revolution
A long while ago, in a galaxy far, far away - Aurorealis got an early Christmas gift of DDR. I read along as she made brief references to it.
I had the feeling that this thing is kinda lame, but the fact that she agrees and that she got addicted enough to get a workout had me sold. Recently, my state income tax check cleared the bank and I decided that it was about time to give myself a treat. I picked up the Dance Dance Revolution Extreme bundle that came with both the game and a dance pad.
I could do the lessons in the game. As soon as I started playing the game itself, I realized that this wasn’t going to work. It was too fast for me on the easiest level. Figuring that the game is for the truly hardcore dancer teens out there, I went back to the store and picked up the original Dance Dance Revolution Maximum game. I started playing the game and it was good for my speed.
Aurorealis was rite. You totally forget that you are working out with this thing. Your mind is being challenged to pay attention to the moves that your feet need to do. This, along with the mesmerizing background becomes harder to do with different songs.
My wife’s friends came in the door and one guy said that he had lost all respect for me as a DDR Freak. I just replied that I never needed it anyway. It’s not like I hang out in his circles.
Update
I went back to the first game that I purchased and found some settings that I could change for the difficulty. I set it to the easiest level and was able to start playing. (I wish I thought of that earlier.) I prefer the songs on the Extreme version. I’ve heard a few on my XM Radio so it’s starting to go with my taste of music.

It’s funny reading your post as it is exactly what I’m doing now to get fit! I’ve found a way of exercising that I enjoy! Never thought of combining my love of games with exercising before.

We ended up with both games - for variety. Great workout, great family activity, just plain fun! Give it time, everyone gets better with practice (even me with my lame leg).

When given enough caffeine (or alcohol), DDR will become the centerpiece of any party. It’s incredible how much fun such a simple game is.

hmmm… guess it would work. Never tried though I probably should try “something”. I don’t know that I could actually forget that I’m working out. lol. maybe. that would be nice.
