You got a PGP? Yea, you know me …

I signed up over at the new forums for BlogAzoo. I started entering information into my personal profile up there and saw that they wanted a PGP key (Pretty Good Privacy).

I have a limited understanding of what this is all about. It has to do with sending signed messages as well as encrypting messages so that only the recipient can decrypt the message. The recipient also has the ability to verify that the message actually came from the sender.

I downloaded the freeware program from the PGP people for personal use. If anyone wants to bother with it - this is my public key:

Yea, I’m sure that this all made perfect sense to just about everyone who visits my blog. Does anyone still use this? I have a few certificates as well for reading email and viewing web pages. I don’t use them to communicate with anyone though. It isn’t like I have anything to hide to that is extreamly sensitive.

I do. Well, actually I used to use GNU Privacy Guard with Thunderbird. It’s a sort of a replacement for PGP. It doesn’t use patented algorithms, so it can be used freely without any legal issues.

I noticed that at first I had to really make myself use encryption and signing, once it became a routine there was no problems.
Mostly I used signing since I also don’t really have much I have to encrypt.

I have no idea what PGP is, but the title to this post had me ROFL. Seriously, that was funny!
