Iraq rocks the vote

This weekend, Iraq voted for someone to lead them. A big step for an oppressed country. I don’t want to get too political, but there were many people who said that the United States couldn’t pull it off. Well, they were saying that the president couldn’t pull it off.

What some people fail to realize is that if there is a problem that needs to be solved, then we do everything to the best of our abilities to solve that problem. It doesn’t matter what country you are in. You never give up unless failure is certain. In this case, failure was just a bunch of bullies saying that we couldn’t do it.

I’ve noticed just about every picture covering the Iraq vote has people with blue fingers. I went ahead and got some blue paint and dabbled it on my thumb in celebration. Here is to you Iraq! You really rocked the vote!

The news reports of the festivities, you’d almost have to call them that based upon most of the videos I’ve seen, have made this conservative, mostly Bush-backer very pleased and incredibly proud of the Iraqis who gave the “finger” to Zarqawi and the ba’athist thugs.

I was sorry to hear of the 35 deaths and however many injuries, but I really expected more, much more, based upon the pre-vote threats so I’m also proud of the job that our forces, along with the other-national and Iraqi forces did in allowing such a trouble free vote for the Iraqi people.

I hope that this will be the precursor to many good things: that Iraqi’s will no longer put up with the trouble-makers but will cooperate more in ridding their towns of murderous thugs; that nations who have heretofore done little or nothing for the Iraqi effort will, recognizing a legitimate government in Iraq, agree to participate more in at least training of Iraqi military and police forces (I don’t seriously suppose they will pony up forces of thier own in Iraq but I can dream and pray); that a new government will be seen as legitimate by more Iraqis diminishing the draw that Zarqawi might have for making recruits.

Pipe-dreams? Perhaps, but they are mine.
