Cheap HDTV selection

One of these days, I would love to upgrade my television entertainment to an HDTV. I would prefer the plasma screen televisions, but I just don’t have three thousand dollars to blow away. So it looks like I’ll be sticking with the CRT’s for now.

My co-worker went with the upgrade and found a great place to get good deals on them. He introduced me to 7e4. The place deals with refurbished electronics. He drove up to this place, picked up the tv and hasn’t had a problem with it.

The model he got was a 27″ Samsung that normally goes for $519.00 on Amazon.com (brand new). He only paid $379.00 for his television set. He said that they plugged it in and showed him all the features and such before he made the purchase.

Tempting, but the costs still seem high. I already have a television. My main problem is that Linux for my PS2 is hard to use with my television set, and I’m not sure if it would support HDTV resolutions.

The other thing is that not all channels support HDTV. Only the movie channels, sports games, and the news support it. (Why on earth does the news need to be in HDTV?) Everything else appears in regular TV resolutions. I would also have to pay my cable company extra to support HDTV.

I guess the real problem here is that I haven’t seen anything with HDTV. To me, its just something new and cool calling to my geeky side. The dorkyness within me is saying “Ohh… Shiny” and wanting to hold on to it tight and horde it all to myself.
