Simply Red - Home

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

So what’s on your XM? My favorite channel to listen to at work is 81 BPM (Beats per Minute). It’s a Dance station. I wonder if I could learn some moves to dance to some of the music. Anyway - here are the lyrics a song that I really like called “Home”. (I love you Angel).

What’s worth nothing else but love
Take a walk down any street now
Every one of us in our own little world
Looking for a heart with whom to beat now

What’s worth nothing else but love
I’m prepared to take the heat now
What’s worth more than anything else at all
To keep you firmly on your feet now

So fake cool image should be over
‘Cause I long for a feeling of home
Real life, depicted in song
A loving memory
After long, home is a place where I yearn to belong

Where the land meets the sea
She’ll be smiling so sweetly now
I hope that she’ll be here much longer than I will
My heart loves her with every beat now

So fake cool image should be over
‘Cause I long for a feeling of home
Real life, depicted in song
A loving memory
After long, home is a place where I yearn to belong

Database Migration

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

Working on some migration scripts today. A bug has been identified and the fix is on the way. Sometimes it is just too tediouse to fix though. At least I’m making some good progress.

Kelli let me know that there was food in the fridge for a lunch today, but I had to pass. Zerrin let her know that I was on a special diet. I better watch out or the holiday blues may catch up to me. I just don’t like missing out on social events.

License to Chill

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

I was digging through the attic and found a few things the other day. This is my official Pepsi License to Chill card. Looks like I had this card when I was a sophmore in high school.

Lulu Book Publishing

Monday, November 29th, 2004

I have heard of cafe press before, where you can sell t-shirts, mugs, mousepads and bumper stickers with your photos on them. Now I found something much cooler. Lulu.

Lulu lets you sell customized books, calendars, photos, music, e-books, and more. Is that cool or what? I think I’m going to start writing a book about something. Heck, I can even purchase an ISBN number that lets the big bookstores purchase my book. I’m getting a little carried away, but it would be nice to have a real book all of my own. They even set me up with my own storefront.

A book is simply an organized blog without the reference to time. Now for an idea … Technical? Fiction? Autobiography?

The Meaning of Life

Monday, November 29th, 2004

I saw a Google advertisement and clicked it. Yea, can you imagine that? Actually, I only click through Google advertisements. Go figure. Anyway, let’s get to the point of this post…

I saw an ad about a project starting up to publish a book regarding the meaning of life. The book is made up of visitor submissions rather then “experts”. It will be in paperback and released around October 2005. It will be about 300 pages long so (according to them,) I have a descent shot at getting my entry included within the book. So - the question(s):

What is the meaning of life? Or, how can life be made better?

The meaning of life is what you make of it. It is different for each person and changes throughout there lives. My personal meaning of life is not knowledge, but the discovery of knowledge. I like the path of discovery, creativity, and imagination. I always try to help people understand how I have come to my conclusions, why it is better then other solutions, and I am also willing to throw in a few hints here and there to help them out. Sure, we could say the meaning of life is to be happy - but what is it that truly makes you happy?

To make life better, you have to take that first step. Just about everyone knows a few things that they “could” do in order to get something done. We find reasons not to do it, or make up some tasks to completely to avoid the problem. I have found out that ignoring the first step only prolongs the negative aspect of life and that I feel so much better after the task is done.

I lost 2.6 pounds

Monday, November 29th, 2004

I was in the zone with some work at the office this evening. It was one of those scenarios where you know what is wrong, and you tweak it, and try again, and again, and again … Time passes quickly, but the problem does not. You know the answer is just at the tip of your hands. Fortunately, I found the answer (finally) and left.

Driving home was amazing. There was hardly any traffic. I was doing 40 in a 55 MPH zone all the way home. Wow! Something must be going on. I even got a parking spot that was very close to the Weight Loss center. I arrived 15 minutes before closing.

I walked in and the place was filled. I recognized a few people that I saw there. I signed my name on the sign in sheet and sat down for about thirty minutes. I went to the scale fearing the worst. I didn’t cheat this time. I had my wallet in my pocket this time, so I figured I would not make any progress at all. I got on the scale and … it was a low number. A really low number. It kept jumping between 253.2 and 253.4 pounds. The woman choose 253.2 because it sounded better.

That took a load off of my mind. I was suprised though. The past two days - I hadn’t done anything but loaf around the house. I didn’t even do any walking.

Another Hole

Monday, November 29th, 2004

I just got a new belt recently at wal-mart. It was a little tight the first time I tried it on and I figured it was for the best since I’m losing weight. Well, I’m already on the second hole out of 4. That’s not cool. Before you know it, I’ll be buying another belt at the end of December at this rate.

Merging Branched Files

Monday, November 29th, 2004

Eh… Holidays are over and it is back to work I go. I’m going through some files from a previouse version of the software I work on at work. I have to merge the fixes to the new branch. Kinda tedious work sometimes - especially if the new branch didn’t originally share the files. ack! How did that happen?

For anyone who isn’t technically aware of source control software, I apologize. Here is what I’m trying to say: I’m having a slow day.

SCO was hacked

Monday, November 29th, 2004

Man, I just love this one. Seems that someone hacked the SCO website to read the following:

SCO vs World
Recently we found parts of our code in almost all Microsoft® software. We want to bring an action against Microsoft® and our legal department is working on that. Parts of code found in in all Microsoft® products from MS-DOS™ 2.1 to Microsoft® Windows™ Longhorn. Currently we are checking older MS-DOS sources. It’s obvious, that all while (1){ do_something; } and for (i = 0; i <> 16; i++) loops came from our code.

hacked by realloc()

If anyone doesn’t know who SCO is - these are the guys sueing Red Hat and people using any kind of operating system based on the open-source linux kernal. The things they are sueing over are so simple that any programmer could come up with the code without looking at SCO’s code. It is text-book examples from what I hear. Not too many people are happy with the deal and it seems to go against everything that linux stands for. SCO is on many peoples $@#! list.

MajorMUD

Monday, November 29th, 2004

I just tried playing a MUD (Multiple User Dungeon) on Utopia. Man … this brings back memories of LoRD (Legend of the Red Dragon). I’m kinda getting tired so I’ll go into it tomarrow. Good night all.
