Cooking all day

Sunday, October 24th, 2004

Today is the first day of my diet plan. Most of my day was spent cooking. I woke up at 10 and cookied steak & eggs for breakfast. After I finished eating, I then went to prepare the mid-morning snack. At that time it was noon, so I made lunch. I then took a nap. I woke up and made the mid-afternoon snack. I went out to pick up my mother in-law for her weekend visit. When I got back home, I watched a little tv, but decided to make dinner at 7. On top of that - Angel wanted me to make her some steak when I was done. I didn’t have any more to spare, so I ended up cooking some salmon for her after I was done eating. At this rate, I’m going to have to cook two dinners a day or she’ll get upset that I’m not cooking for her.

This plan isn’t friendly at all at the moment. During preperation of each meal/snak - I also had to pack a meal/snack for tomarrow since I’ll be at work for 5 of the six meals that I’m supposed to eat during the day. Well, I’ll just eat breakfast on the way out, so I’ll only be eating 4 meals at work.

I really hope that this plan is going to change. It isn’t simple at all. I feel like I haven’t been able to do anything at all today. If I’m spending the rest of the night tomarrow cooking for Tuesdays workday, I’m going to go out of my mind. Show me a plan where I just need a microwave and hardly any preperation.

I think I know why most americans are overweight. Microwave. It’s safe. You don’t have to worry about it over heating your food since it stops heating once the timer goes off. Unfortunatly, it seems that everything that is healthy doesn’t work with a microwave.

The Flash Games

Saturday, October 23rd, 2004

Now it’s even easier to waste all of your preciouse time away without even realizing it! My brother introduced a game to me over at The Flash Games. I cracked my brain trying to solve a few levels of a puzzle box game. After about an hour I gave up and started looking at the page it was hosted on. It turns out that it was on a web site with a “virtual” ton of Flash games. So if you’re trying to pass the time, or looking for some enjoyment in your life, head on over to the flash games.

A trip to Arlington

Saturday, October 23rd, 2004

I was running late due to a previouse appointment that had run longer then expected. I got a shower and grabbed my things. Angel asked if she could come and I responded “Sure”!

We traveled up 95. Angel would navigate the way with directions printed out from the internet. I knew were were in the area when buildings started to look familliar. I then spotted the Silver Diner that was supposed to be accross from the Commmon Grounds. I parked the car and started hunting for change. I found one quarter and a few dimes. I entered all the coins into a meter and I stated that I only had 30 minuts (25 cents worth). I wished that it had stated that only quarters would be credited for time.

We walked around a fenced parking lot for taxies. Angel held on to me tightly as traffic rushed by. Although she had on her cloak, she still felt chili. I had on a pair of shorts and a short sleeve shirt, but I was doing just fine.

I read the numbers accross each door until I finally found 3211. It was for a Moraccan restauraunt. I proceeded into the restaurant and saw that there was a large gathering of elderly couples. Angel immediately turned around and I soon followed.

We agreed to head back to the car to drop off our writing supplies and then walk around the area. On the other side of the Silver Diner, I found Common Grounds. This appeared to be a coffee shop and was definately the kind of place that I would imaging a writing group hanging out. I poked my head in the door and looked around for any familliar faces from Thursday night. No one could be seen. I would have stayed for a cup of Jo but I have been avoiding caffine like the plague for the past 5 years.

On our way out, we noticed a Petco store that was hidden within the sceenery. We went in and looked around. I saw some fire bellied frogs and she found a pretty cool lizard. We walked around the store and found some cat toys. We picked up some balls with detatchable tails for our newest addition to the family, Skyler. I’m sure some of the other eight cats may enjoy the toys as well. I paid for the toys and asked for an additional dollar in quarters for change.

We headed back to the car. Six minutes were left on the meter and I put in enough to cover us for the next three hours. It was three o’clock and I hadn’t eaten yet. We went over to the Silver Diner. I ordered a strawberry milk shake and a hickory smoked burger. Angel passed. She had eaten already.

She was writing on a small note pad. We began by playing a game of tic-tac-toe. I had “X”’s, and she had “O”’s. It had gotten to the point where it was my turn and I had paused. I thought she had caught on that I had won. After a moment, I placed the last “X” and she put her head in her arms and laughed. She then proceeded to make a game of hang man. She hid the paper from view as she prepared it. The following dashes were available:

_ - _ _ _ _ - _ _ _

I had an immediate guess as to what it was.
“I”

She wrote down “I” in the first space.

“L”

She giggled and took the paper back. As I had figured “I love you”. She then began to suggest that we draw at the same time and see what we make. I didn’t know what to do, so I just made some doodling patterns that I usually make at my meetings. After a while she flipped the page and started writing with her left hand at variouse parts of the page. She is a right-handed person, so the letters looked funny. I proceeded to write with my right hand, but upside down, so she could read:

I love and Angel, yes I do
I love an Angel
because she loves me to

She was getting tired of waiting and my food had just arrived. I offered her some, but she still declined. As I began to eat, she began swinging her legs like a child - impatient.

“Is everything ok?”

She wrote on her papger “I’m bored. I want to walk”.

I tried to hurry, but the meal was rather large. She started flipping through the replicated Antique Juke Box at the table and tried to push letters for some of the songs. I already spent our quarters on the meter, so I couldn’t offer any more to her.

After I was done, the cook came around and mentioned that he would get our check. I started to take out my credit card and he offered to take care of it. I was impressed, because I usually have to wait for a waiter to come back with a check and then wait longer for them to come back to take my card, and then wait longer for them to come back with my card. The cook came back promptly. I signed the card with a tip and we left the Diner.

Angel and I had walked around some more.

“All I see are car dealerships”, she said.

I agreed and we turned around. We decided to head back home and call it a day. Throughout the walk back to the car and the drive home, she held on to me tightly and said all the things that she liked about me. She was pleased at how I would put up with a lot of things that a lot of other men wouldn’t, and that I was the person who she had been wishing for before we met.

I would listen, but was at a loss for words to respond with. I didn’t feel like all of these things. I wasn’t a hero. I was just … I was just me. I was just happy that someone accepted me for all of my short commings. For all the things that I felt bad about, they didn’t matter to her.

We arrived home. Although we didn’t make it to the group of writers, we were happy that we still had each other.

LA Weight Loss

Saturday, October 23rd, 2004

I went to an appointment for LA Weight Loss today. My wife and sister in-law copped out and didn’t go. They rescheduled my appointment yesterday to be 30 minutes later - all for nothing.

I filled out some paperwork and then had a long chat with one of the counselors there. She was nice and had a picture of herself before she went on the program. Big difference. I got weighd, had blood pressure taken, and had some measurements. We went over the ideas and phases of the plan and I expressed my concerns over simple meals that are easy to make. When it came down to the price, it wasn’t so bad as another place I went to, but they did ask for it all up front. I couldn’t afford it and we agreed that I would pay some money from my debit/credit card for the next few months. I left with a bag of juice and a plan of suggestive eating for the next two days for the first part of the plan. I would meet again on monday.

I sat in the car for 20 minutes looking over the suggestions. It seems I’m off to cooking again. All of the foods listed for there suggested meals, I was bound to buy too much stuff that I didn’t need for the next 2 days. I headed into the grocery store near by and as I expected, was confused with what to buy. I got iceburg lettuce as well as romain. 2 cucumbers, fresh brocoli crowns … how much, I do not know. I just bagged them and went on.

I went over to the steaks and couldn’t beleive the prices. Its going to cost $10 for a meal … ouch. And that is just for the steak in the meal. I got a pack of checken breasts figuring a chicken strip was just a chicken breast cut up. Man … I was going out of my head. How much do I buy? A Pound? Two? I got a large one and figured I would split it with the girls.

I was also looking for scallops and scallions. I figured one was a green vegitable but I couldn’t find anything with either name. The counselor said that the other was some kind of sea food that was white. I looked over in the fresh seafood section and couldn’t find anything with either name. I did find the cooked shrimp though. I’ll have to talk with her on Monday and explain the confusion that I had gone through. I’m used to buying a package, nuking it, and then I eat. With this diet, I’m having a hard enough time shopping. I also couldn’t find the salt. She specifically mentioned that I needed to use Morton Lite Salt. I spent 10 minutes looking at all the salts and then looking through the spices for this. Not a trace.

Later in the day I called mom and mentioned that I bought into the plan anyway. She wished me luck, but I could tell she wasn’t too pleased. She did mention where she buys the salt for my other sister in-law who is on the diet. Well, let’s see how this goes. I’m not giving up yet - Day 1 begins tomorrow. By July 7th, I will make it below 200 lbs.

Stink bugs … stink.

Friday, October 22nd, 2004

Engin spotted a bug in my office. I stomped on it but it kept walking, so I dragged my shoe on it accross the room until there wasn’t much of it left. Shortly after it began to smell like band-aids. Then it got worse, and worse. The whole office smells. Its been about 20 minutes and the place still stinks.

A visit to the Cat Vacuume Society

Thursday, October 21st, 2004

I stayed a little late at work tonight so that I could go directly to the Cat Vacuume Society tonight. My trusty directions from map quest sure helped me out a lot. Everything worked out great except that it was hard to find a spot to park. I finally gave in and parked in the garage. I didn’t have any cash, but I figured I could find an ATM after the meeting.

I went into the Barns and Noble and was suprised to see it was two floors and seemed to be huge. It gave me the feeling of upper-middle class. I looked around and didn’t see any rooms. I asked an employee where the event lounge was. She pointed to a group of people setting in a circle near the windows.

I hadn’t been in a situation of meeting new people in a while. I felt a bit shy and uncomfortable. As I looked around, these people were different then the normal groups of people that I meet when entering a new job. The age range varied. A few looked like my stereotype impression of “artsy-cool”. I was setting with mothers, grand-mothers, and perhaps colledge students. Most were women. Since I get along best with women on a social level, this makes me feel more at ease. And since I am not the only male, I am also feeling good about that.

Jennifer, of whome I talked with on the nano forums handed me some papers from last week. A speaker had come last week and discussed something dealing with spiritual writing and experiences. The paper mainly had information for doing a workshop on this to help write more detailed events so that your readers will feel the same experiences that you felt.

Just before the meeting began, I noticed that half the members had small typewriters with LCD screens. I inquired about them and they mentioned that they last about 25 hours on the battery and run on the Palm OS. Hmm… I wonder if I could run SETI on one. The memory is simply a memory card you use in digital cameras. I’ll have to look into affordability sometime soon.

Listening to some of them speak about plot ideas and such, I could catch on that some knew something about pagan-based religions and would tie it into there stories. Some would come rite out and practically say it. Others were religiouse and not so religiouse. Either way, its cool and it makes me feel a lot better about where I am.

Halfway through the meeting, I received a short-story that they were critiquing. I read through it, but had a hard time since I was also trying to listen to people speak. I must say it was really funny and pretty good. It had a lot of people and I couldn’t keep track of who just said what - but that was probably because my mind was focusing on two things. I would say more - but I would be shot. Actually, I don’t know what I can say about anything, so to play it safe, I’ll keep all the details to myself and give high-level reviews that don’t tell you anything. I finnished by the end of the meeting.

I looked around afterwards and found a small dream book. I figured it may come in handy and purchased it. I got my garrage ticket stamped by the cashier and proceeded to look for an ATM. I walked in many directions and kept backtracking. I was looking around every corner for an ATM since the group mentioned that it was just around a corner. It was dark and my glasses are still broken, so everything was pretty blurry.

After 20 minutes, I gave up and started walking back to the car, hoping that I had change. I found an ATM on the way back and got a crisp twenty dollar bill out of my checking account. I pocketed the bill, took my card and was on my way back to the garrage. As I approached, I noticed on the floor above that there was another ATM. This must have been the ATM they were talking about that was just around the corner. I did not realize that I had to go up some steps to get to it.

I got to my car and looked over my maps from map quest. I spent some time trying to commit the streets to memory. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and turned the ignition. Arriving at the ticket booth, the guy asked for only one dollar. I looked at my dash board and picked up some change and handed it to him. “All of that walking for nothing”, I thought to myself. At least I was able to get some exercise in, but the night was really cold and the rain mist didn’t help make things any better.

I would rite more but I’m going to vacuume the cat.

Surprises for an Angel

Wednesday, October 20th, 2004

When I went shopping today, I picked up a few odds and ends for my wife. She loves the Crayola crayons and school supplies for drawing. I picked up some erasable colored pencils, twistable crayons, bathtub crayons, two 1″ binders, 12 clear sleeves to put her drawings in, a pack of post-it’s, small drawing pads the size of index cards, and a larger drawing pad. I also picked up two packs of American playing cards with patriotic images on each card.

I got home and wrapped them up in gift wrap that had printed roses and went down stairs. “What is the occasion?”, she asked. I replied that it wasn’t her birthday and it wasn’t a holiday, so it seemed that it was the rite time to give her a gift. She was startled and then I started to take them back and said “I could always take them back”. She promptly declined and began opening them.

She was happy as she went through the items that I packed between the binders. She then said that she would have really loved it if I also got her some Chunky Monkey ice cream. I said that I was thinking about it, but decided against it due to her concerns with her diet - but I did get some cheery Italian ice that she likes just as much.

I guess she will be drawing away for a little while with her new toys. It was nice to get her something different that she enjoys besides the usual box of crayons.

Prescriptions came in the mail

Wednesday, October 20th, 2004

My pills came today. Good thing too. I was down to 4 days before I was out. They even sent it overnight like I asked. Things are looking up. In other news, I just found some of Moms Chocolate mint cups while I was out shopping. It is getting harder to find these things since walmart stopped selling that flavor.

National Novel Writing Month

Wednesday, October 20th, 2004

Ok, there is a contest next month. The rules are simple - write a novel that is 175 pages (about 50,000 words). That amounts to about 1,667 words per day. Since my blogs inception, I have only written 38,000 words in one and a half months. It sounds like a challenge! I signed up and setup my profile. I Can’t wait.

Now my only problem is comming up with something to write about. I’ll make another blog specifically for this challenge and link to it from here. I found out about the link from Blogger.com’s Dashboard. They want to rename it to National Blog Writing Month. Funny stuff!

NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month

So … does anyone believe in my talant? Give me a cheer!
