Skeet Launcher and Squirels for Yuletide

Monday, September 27th, 2004

I got some little debbie fudge rounds. My sister in-law tried to eat them and failed. They were just too sweet for her. I looked in the trash can and was suprised she didn’t try to burn it. She actually wanted to go out back and shot at it with Angels bb gun. I don’t know how, but soon there after we were talking about launching squirels from skeet launchers. I mentioned that they should ask mom for them at Yuletide this year.

In other news … I just won 5 billion dollars on blogshares. There was a question on the forums a few weeks ago for newbies like myself asking a few questions about blogshares.

Were you referred to the game?

I was referred by a weblog with a blogshares link at the bottom of the page.

What has kept your interest in the game thus far?
What has kept my interest … well, the fact that I found out that it’s a game and not just some place to post a link. Over the past few days, I’m finding more and more about it that there is more parts of it. At first I thought it was just about money and shares. Then I found out about chips. From there I found out about raffels and advertising. Then I found out about Ideas - still confused about what those are and how you make them. Then there are artifacts (totally clueless about this). On top of that, I’m starting to learn about strategy of increasing the value of my blog, so I’m trying to get people on the net to link to me. I’m also learning about Karma and Votes. I got 27 karma from voting, but I’ve voted on maybe 200 sites. I’m also seeing some blogs give reports. So the actual answer to #2 would be the fact that every time I turn around, there seems to be more to the game then I realize.

Are you confused at the game and would like more help?

Confused … yes. I need some tutorials laying out the definition of each thing, and walk-through examples of how to do everything. Like I said - how do I make an Idea? what is an idea? Also, I’ve come accross many sites while voting that couldn’t be categorized in an industry because they are no longer valid blogs (the host deactivated the blog, but it is not a 404) so How do I report a blog is no longer in business? What is the real currency of Blogshares? Money, Shares, Chips, Karma, Ideas, Artifacts, Something Else?

How have you been treated since you started playing?

Treated … good. Someone gave me 1200 shares of a webblog. Don’t know why. But I did talk to them a bit. Other then that, I haven’t talked to anyone. This is my first post on the forums. I just found out about forums a half hour ago.

Big day today

Sunday, September 26th, 2004

I picked up my mother in-law, my neice, and my nephew. While they were doing there things in the house, I was outside doing lawn work. I was pruning over-grown weeds and trimming the hedges. The hedges haven’t been trimmed for a good while and it was a lot of work. My arms are tired. They ache every time I move them up. I took my nephew over to walmart to pick up a 100 foot cord. The other one that I had was only about 25 feet long and couldn’t reach a lot of places. Oddly enough, he wanted to help me out. I appreciated it, but didn’t let him due to all the bugs and the sharp pricklies on some of the weeds. His mom and grammy would have a field day if he came up all torn up. It is dark out now, so there isn’t much else I can do. Besides, I’m all worn out.

Angel looks pretty. I wonder if my wife has a fan-club that I can join.

Womens Intuition and Men

Sunday, September 26th, 2004

I was thinking today about Women’s Intuition. I came to the conclusion that although women have this, men have hunches. Although women can have hunches too … it seems like a “macho” kind of thing to have. It can’t work in reverse though. I have never herd of Men’s Intuition. Searching the net only came up with a few entries - most of which concerned mens deoderent. Actually the name of the deoderent was “Intuition” and it was for a man.

Rat Hocket

Rat Hocket,
originally uploaded by lewismoten.

An interesting game that I stumbled upon. Find a rat, get your stick under it, and flip it to the center of an area where three trees join together. You can’t touch it with your hands - feet and stick only. If someone walks into the playing area, you are penalized with an extra turn - goal is to get it in the trees in the least amount of moves. When you are about to flip the rat - you yell “CHEESE”. (Only golfers yell four)

Interesting day

Saturday, September 25th, 2004

I started off getting out to the DMV this morning. A long line was comming out of the building and out about 300 feet. An hour later the woman at information just pointed me to the self service area to get my tags paid. Man, I wish they had someone outside calling for people who were just paying for tags. I had wasted an hour for nothing.

The self-service area was a touch-screen keyboard with a credit card reader and a scanner. A woman approached me asking if I needed help. I was slow at what I was doing, but I was getting by. She mentioned that the scanner was not working, so I would have to enter the information by the touch-screen keyboard. I was typing the numbers alright - but I was having a terrible time looking for the enter key. Apparently, the keyboard wasn’t laid out 100% like a normal computer keyboard. The enter button was at the bottom of the screen and large … however its contrast against the background was not strong. It took me a bit of searching before I found it. Man … I’m not sure if I should feel like a moron for not finding the big button right away, or if its some designers fault for not taking lessons on color theory and user task analysis.

Anyway … after that, I went home to look for some receipts. Upon my searches, I found that I had actually been approved for my wal-mart credit card and actually had the thing in my hands. Boy is this great news. I was running low on food and wasn’t sure if I would make it for the next week. I activated my card and then took off for the ren fest.

I went over to shop keeper and patiently waited until he was done with a customer. I approached and stated that I needed to cancel an order. He neither argued or asked why. He took the receipts I had and swiped my card. I was impressed. Truly impressed. I kept going over all these scenarios that I figured would happen on the trip getting there and here it was - the best outcome. I felt a little guilty about the whole thing - but it was his fault for charging me on the wrong day costing $96 in service charges from my bank. And then there was the fee to get into the renfest to have him fix the problem last time. Unfortunately, It was not fixed quick enough …

Well, I actually spent the rest of the day watching a lot of the shows, asking people for “memories” (photographs), and talking with the locals about the storyline going on today. I stayed so late that I found myself walking along streets where there were hardly any souls walking around. It was in the late evening and was more peaceful. As I approached the gates leading out, there was still a crowd of people. I simply walked out and make the long hike to my car.

I then proceeded the trip home, but stopped at walmart first. I picked up some cat litter, milk, and a few odds and ends in food supplies. I am now home and beat. This was a good day. A lot was accomplished. It had turned out better then I had expected. I am pleased and at rest. Oh, and get this - my special spectacular awesome wife was cleaning up when I got home and didn’t complain that I was out all this time without calling. Well … I did try to call, but my cell phone wasn’t working.

Plantains are good afterall

Friday, September 24th, 2004

Well, I did some looking around the internet - and it appears that most plaintain recipees call for some heat. My coworkers mentioned that they are usually sweet dishes as well. So I fired up my deep fryer. I cut a plaintain into 1/2 inch cylindars and dipped them in at 300 degrees until they floated. Some stuck to the bottom since they were a bit sticky when they first went in. I then took a coffee cup and squished them down to 1/4 inch disks and fried them again. Put them on a paper towel and serve with a bowel of honey.

Hey … I’m not a gourmet chef, but these are great.
